Information Security: Threats and Trends

INFORMATION SECURITY

Privacy is one of the most protected in our lives. But, as i can see nowadays, it is not as secure as what it seems to be. As lots of incidents happened about internet threats and victimization. In the world of technology, as years go by, lots and lots of threats are attacking our software from laptops to smartphones.

In this reporting, they taught us how to avoid these pesky threats that can affect our the whole system of our gadgets and avoid spywares that could also affect our lives. I appreciated how the topic was delivered because this topic is very important to us, especially to me, a user of technology. They taught us how to protect your privacy and lots of things about internet security management.

Seminar

Even though I wasn't able to attend to the seminar, I had the chance to be oriented by what happened during the seminar and what are the things that we're discussed re Information Security.

Data and Input Validation, Risk Assessment, Access Control,  Web Application and Server Application Authentication, Error Handling, Authorization and many more, are the notable topics that were discussed during the seminar. This we're the things that tells you how to properly secure your system and protect your important data from theft and threats.

GREEN COMPUTING: Seminar

GREEN COMPUTING

Last January 9, 2015, Friday, we had a seminar about Green Computing. It is conducted by the Green Computing's reporters in all ICT Trends classes. We our very thankful that the seminar's speaker is Mr. Christian Maderazo. He's been a very amazing speaker that left us wonderful knowledge expansion about Green Computing.

On that seminar, we learned a lot of the latest gadgets and trends regarding on how to Go Green. First, he showed us the comparisons of CRT vs LCD and LED TVs. CRT Monitors can heat up a lot and LCDs and LEDs don't use up a lot of electricity and can save a lot of energy. Also, they don't have radiations that can damage our eyes. Second is the Thin Client, where all computers depend on the server to fulfill it's computational roles. The downside of the Thin Client is that because all computers depend on a single working server, it may be slow because of the traffic. Third, he showed us the latest trending CPU stating that we should Go Small. It's the latest CPU line from Intel that is hefty not on price but on it's decent performance that you won't believe that size of a External Hard Drive can do a lot of multitasking tasks, and it is approximately P12,000 - P13, 000, affordable that you can save up to 80% from a normal CPU with the same performance specs.

This seminar has a very nice topic, that expanded my knowledge from last reporters' report.

GREEN COMPUTING: Reporting

GREEN COMPUTING

Last January 7, 2015, the reporting had resume and it's Green Computing's turn. It tackles about how we can use our technologies in the right way and conserving energy without forfeiting user experience. It gives us the knowledge on how to choose devices and appliances that supports going green but in our own preference.

What I've learned on this report is that my Green Computing knowledge has been expanded as they've given us what are the different ways on how to Go Green. One is the Energy Star that we knew all these years, as what we've been seeing from phone chargers to appliance plugs. Energy Star is an International standard for energy efficient consumer products originated in the United States, according to Wikipedia. Second is Server Virtualization, where the physical server of a certain computer is partitioned into smaller virtual servers to save and help maximize the server resources.

It is a very interesting topic that we should look forward to. I've learned a lot from that session's topic, so i looked forward in listening in the seminar on January 9, 2015 about Green Computing.
